Each hike includes a link for driving directions from Juniper Ridge to the trailhead and detailed hike information to help you plan. Our list is just the beginning—there are countless more ways to explore Pagosa Springs!
Piedra Falls.
This is an easy, out-and-back hike and a favorite. Pack a lunch and plan to stay awhile. Kids love playing below the falls and crossing the river.
Pro Tip: Map out directions before you head out, cell service will be spotty.

Treasure Falls.
This is the most popular of the falls, located right off the highway as you head up the pass. It's an easy hike with two different route options. Expect larger crowds, especially during peak season.

Piedra River Trail.
One of our favorite hikes! Stroll along the Piedra River for as long as you'd like, or settle on the banks for a relaxing afternoon. This hike keeps us coming back year after year.

Lobo Overlook + the CDT.
From the top of Lobo Overlook, set off in any direction on the famous Continental Divide Trail. The views are some of the highest in Southern Colorado. Don't be surprised if you encounter backpackers who have been on the CDT for weeks.
Pro Tip: Bring an extra layer - expect colder temperatures at high elevations

Ice Fissures Trail.
A fun hike with an even better ending. Start at the Piedra River Trailhead and head up instead of down towards the river. Along the way, stop to feel the cold air blowing up from the many ice fissures.
Pro Tip: Pack a bottle of wine and a few cups…you’ll want to stay at the top to take in the views!

Alberta Peak.
This 6-mile roundtrip hike is well worth the effort. The trail leads to the top of Wolf Creek Ski Area, offering panoramic views in all directions.
Pro Tip: Hike up with your headlamp (early morning) to catch the sunrise cresting over the mountain tops - it’s a must!

Reservoir Hill Park
Located in downtown Pagosa Springs, Reservoir Hill is an outdoor treasure for locals and visitors alike. Enjoy hiking, mountain biking, snowshoeing, and cross-country skiing on the many trails. Look for wood sculptures scattered on the hill, try your hand at disc golf, or enjoy music festivals held in the meadow.

Opal Lake.
This challenging hike involves a moderate uphill climb but offers a great reward when you reach the lake. Pack a lunch and stay awhile before making the much easier descent back to the trailhead.
Pro Tip: A must hike in the Fall when the Aspen trees are changing colors.

Turkey Springs Trail System.
The Turkey Springs area offers easy access to the National Forest. This multi-use area provides various recreational opportunities, including hiking, mountain biking, horseback riding, 4-wheel driving, hunting, and winter activities.
